Research Advocate and Support Engineer
We're looking for a talented individual to join our team and support research across the Redivis platform!
About Redivis
Redivis is a data platform used by thousands of scientists across leading research institutions. Redivis connects researchers with the data and tools they to perform groundbreaking work, and allows institutions to distribute data at scale. Our goal: make data science simpler and more accessible to everyone.
Our team is a passionate group of designers, engineers, product people, and data enthusiasts. As a small company, we all get the opportunity to have ownership, wear many hats, and learn new skills.
Role
You'll serve as the bridge between the Redivis platform and our growing user base — the key person who ensures researchers and administrators succeed with the tools they have today, and discover everything else Redivis can do for them. You'll play a central role in defining best practices, building the self-serve resources researchers need to succeed, and solving the complex technical problems they can't work through alone.
Day to day, you'll have a lot of autonomy to identify where to focus and drive your own plans to execution — spanning both research advocacy (community engagement, content, training) and support engineering (troubleshooting workflows, escalating issues, working closely with the product and engineering teams). Over time, this role provides a growth path towards leading all of our community-focused efforts at Redivis.
In this role, you will:
Become an expert in using the Redivis platform for data analysis and management.
Track developments in the broader data science ecosystem and identify how emerging tools, workflows, and community trends connect to Redivis.
Develop a thorough understanding of the goals and pain points across our community, and use those insights to drive improvements in support systems and user education.
Proactively engage the Redivis community to showcase and teach platform functionality (e.g. webinars, blog posts, training events, and conferences).
Build and maintain scalable self-serve support resources (e.g. documentation, example workflows, guides, and training videos).
Lead the onboarding of new customers, ensuring they take full advantage of all that Redivis has to offer.
Serve as the primary point of contact for inquiries via email and other inbound channels to triage, diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues.
Collaborate with engineering and design to surface bugs, advocate for user needs, and contribute to platform improvements.
Qualifications
Strong technical proficiency in using Python, R, and/or SQL for data science.
Solid understanding of data science principles, methodologies, and common tools.
User empathy around the challenges and pain points when working with research data.
Experience creating and maintaining teaching or support materials.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.
Comfortable adapting to the needs of a highly diverse user base spanning numerous scientific disciplines and varying levels of data science expertise.
Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
Bonus
Experience working with research communities or in an academic setting.
Preexisting familiarity with the Redivis platform.
Familiarity with other programming languages in the research data science ecosystem (Stata, SAS, Javascript, etc.)
Experience in a technical support, customer success, developer relations, or similar role, specifically supporting a technical user base.
Location
Our team is fully remote and does not have an office. We are primarily based in the Bay Area, CA and keep Pacific time for meetings, but have flexibility to work across the United States.
Compensation and benefits
Compensation: We have transparent, formula-based salaries across Redivis. This position is set at $140,320, with room for growth alongside career progression. As an early employee you will also receive significant equity (0.5%), as well as company-wide profit sharing and ongoing salary inflation adjustments.
Benefits: We take employee well-being and work-life balance seriously. All employees accrue 20 days of vacation per year, in addition to a paid 2 week winter shutdown. We also practice an every-other-Friday-off work week, offer generous parental leave, and are committed to supporting professional growth and development.
